AVI Screen classic is free and pretty straight forward. Just google it.

Use the free one from Debugmode called Wink. I use it and it works very well.

Microsoft Media Encoder works well and is a free download too.

I've tried MME, Camtasia, CamStudio and WMCapture. WM Capture produced the best results (with the least amount of jerkiness or dropped frames) and can be easily imported into your V9 project without any further encoding. Also, won't bust the bank as free demo is available on line.

Kahuna, does WMCapture record screen movements? ie, what I'm doing in Vegas - or does it just record on screen streaming video?

I'm confused as to the difference between capturing streaming video versus screen capturing. However, I was experimenting with various applications to capture Google Earth Tours, then, import the files into my V9 projects. WM Capture seemed to work the best with my hardware suite. As there is a flavor of WM Capture you can download for free, check it out. If it doesn't work for your particular purpose you can easily uninstall and move onto another free-bee application. Good luck

To capture your screen including cursor movements, the free CamStudio is hard to beat. Plus, it comes with an SWF producer.
