Good old mp4/mov import problems (yep)

Hi all,

My previous version of Sony Movie Studio platinum 12 started to frequently crash on me, so I decided to update to the latest build (1184).

Since then I cannot import mp4 and mov files anymore. Everytime I try I get the very explanatory error "none of the files dropped could be opened"

I would prefer to fix this without having to convert all the files and degrade the quality in the process. The files used to work...

Some more info:
- Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 64-bit (build 1184)
- Windows 8.1
- Quicktime 7.7.4 (latest)

Here's what I tried so far:
- Roll back to Quicktime 7.6.1 and 7.6.92
- Completely remove and reinstall movie studio
- Put the files in different containers (mp4/mov/mpeg/avi) using AviDemux

None of these worked...

Does anyone have an idea? :(

Small update:

- Also tried completely de-installing iTunes+Quicktime and rolling back to Quicktime 7.6.2 --> does not work

The offending files are:

- From an old panasonic camera: MJPEG (.MOV) + PCM Audio (1 channel, 8 bit, 8 kHz)
- From an old Galaxy mini phone: MPEG-4 (.MP4) + AAC audio (32kHz)

Okay thanks, will try.

I tried many other things so far, like installing ffdshow (but on Windows 8 64-bit ffdshow-tryouts does not install the VFW module, only the DirectShow module, so it probably doesn't do anything anyway), installing the MainConcept MJPEG demo codec, and some other things..

I guess for the moment it is best to just transcode the files to high quality H264 before, which seems to work fine so far...

Please don't install codec packs. They are not what you need and will just make things worse. Neither of the things you installed have any relevance whatsoever!

Thanks for the tip musicvid10, I already de-installed ffdshow and the MainConcept codec yesterday.

I just was desperate to get these videos working, and then you do strange things sometimes... :)
