I'm thinking of going dualie Operton for our studio A and B - what board have you found that's doing a good job? We need five available PCI slots four the four UAD1s and 1 Echo Layla that will run in each machine...

Also, pipe, I've got a Dual Rectifier head and cab that we mic up a lot for recording, have you had much of a chance to compare these to those direct pres... Do they even sound any good?!

I wouldn't even ask, but until recently I thought it wasn't possible to get a decent bass sound from a DI. However we bought a Tech 21 Sansamp RBI (rackmount bass DI / pre) after trying their little bass driver DI. It's damn near perfect and we've got an Ampeg SVT with cab sitting around getting hardly any use! Highly recommended. Run that through the direct in on the Manley and you'll smile.

Hehe perhaps our frosty weather cools off the hotheaded clients ;o)

Yeah, we use the Manley a lot on guitars at the moment, with an Audio Technica 4050 on the cab.

We are shortly getting in some Chandler TG2s, and a pair of Royer R121 ribbon mics. I've heard good things about that stuff on guitar cabs, so I'll let you know how that one works out!

I'm using the following MB:

Tyan S2875ANRF (Tiger K8W 8151) Audio/LAN/IEEE/8X AGP/SATA Raid REG DDR ATX Opteron

You will need a server type power supply with a 24 pin MB power connector.

This board let's you rob power in other ways, but you'll run out of power for your devices.

You can check it out here:

No, its a single monitor....

Was hoping to put in a 48 inch plasma soon... It is in my 5.1 Surround Room...

Jason, I just tracked a bunch of guitar stuff with a royer 122, the preamped, phantom powered version of the 121. If you want a guitar track I'd be happy to send you one. The great thing about these is the mid detail with a soft high end.

ahh bummer, my biggest problem comes when the mackie control is enabled. It goes away when the mackie control is disabled
imac wrote on 5/13/2004, 10:31 PM
I thought the mackie was basically using midi hardware to connect.
Is it more of an issue of the midi i/o used? Do other midi controllers work ok?
PipelineAudio wrote on 5/13/2004, 10:32 PM
all I have is the mackie. I have tried a few dfferent midi I/O's

the mackie works great 75% of the time, GREAT

just some issues with specific plugins when using the mackie control

I am a fairly new user and don't know if what i'm saying is what you're asking but,

I run one Layla24 with one old blackface ADAT via lightpipe into it.
i have tracked 16 tracks at once many times problem free.
Am running an AMD 2500+ w/512mb ram

I can track 24 tracks at a time no problem usually, but thats without any sort of monitoring. My main issues right now are bugs and track count/stability during mix time. Hopefully I get to try out a Layla today
