GPU Processing Bug--Please Confirm

wwaag wrote on 8/1/2015, 11:40 AM
I have a very simple vertical wall--3 columns. If I open the project in V12 B770 with GPU effects processing or V13 B453 without GPU, it is correct and I get this.

However, if I open the project in V13 B453 with GPU processing, I get this.

Notice that the photo in third frame is also displayed in the second frame. I get the same result regardless of which GPU I select (Nvidia 650 or HD4000). Images have been cropped to the correct aspect ratio in Photoshop and the thirds are created using track motion.

Before reporting this to Sony, could someone else please confirm the problem. Here is the download link to the veg and image files.

Confirmed.
VP12 consistent with or without GPU.
VP13 is, as you've shown, NOT consistent.
Bug definitely.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'll report this bug to Sony, but I suspect their reply will take a wee bit longer. LOL.

BTW. Is there a recommended way for reporting bugs?

Vegas Pro 12 worked as expected in all situations on both my machines.

System 1
VegasPro 13-453 fails with Options / Preferences / Video / GPU acceleration of video processing: GTS 450 turned on.

Vegas Pro 13-453 works as expected with GPU acceleration set to off.

Slightly different failure type as shown here.

System 2
Vegas 13-453 fails on i7-3770 with Options / Preferences / Video / GPU acceleration of video processing: intel HD4000 turned on.

Vegas Pro 13-453 works as expected with GPU acceleration set to off.

Yeah, I've really had some crazy things shown--for example, images displayed that were not in the Project. The weird thing is that other video walls such as a simple two by two are OK. It seems to be a problem when the aspect ratio is less than one. In any case, a definite bug. Again thanks.

At least you have gotten confirmation from Nvidia, AMD and Intel GPU systems. It's not a driver problem, which only leaves Vegas.

The big thing in my mind can a work around for the issue be found sans turning GPU off. I would not hold my breath for a fix.

Interesting Update

I positioned your 1280x2160 stills in Photoshop in 3840x2160 transparent .PNG files.

Adding these to a 3840x2160 Vegas Pro project works as expected with GPU on.

Test Files Here.

Last night, I finally got around to submitting the problem to Sony. This morning, I've already gotten a reply. I must admit to a bit of surprise at the speedy response. Here is the text of their reply. Apparently, it doesn't affect Build 428 and earlier. Hopefully, this will be resolved in a future release.

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

I reproduce the behavior you describe and have reported it to our QA and development teams. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them. In the meantime, I will set this incident to Development status so it remains open. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

As a workaround for the issue, I have two possible suggestions:
The first is to turn off GPU acceleration of video processing in Options > Preferences > Video tab while working on affected projects, since as you've noted the issue appears to be specific to GPU acceleration.

If disabling GPU acceleration is unworkable for your situation, you might also roll back to an earlier build of Vegas Pro 13. The issue you've reported affects release builds 444 and 453, but does not appear to affect build 428 and earlier. If you'd like to roll back but don't have an installer for an earlier build, let me know and I can provide one. Note, of course, that if you roll back you will lose any positive changes made in the later builds.

If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

Sincerely,

Guy D.

I know this is old,

But yeah I have seen some strange behaviour with cropping when using the GPU. Had an annoying issue this morning, and just as a thought I disabled the GPU and the issue was resolved. Hence the Google search, and hence finding and posting on the thread.

FYI, this is with an AMD 390

Cheers
