GPU suggestions with preview performance being the primary objective

Hello fellow Vegas users. I have always frameserved my projects for final output so GPU acceleration has not been my radar except for preview performance. Up until now I have been working with 1080p content and the iGPU in my CPU's, currently a 12700K has been sufficient for preview. As I transition to 4K video I'm looking to move to a discrete GPU to provide better (real time or close) preview performance so that editing can be a creative endeavor without having to deal with stuttering or pre-renders during playback.

In the past I know that AMD GPU's have been better at preview performance than Nvidia due to superior Open CL performance. I am currently using VP 19. Is this still the case? I'm also curious as to how the new Intel ARC 750 and 770 GPU's will perform with Vegas as far as preview is concerned but we'll have to wait for reviews, which are unfortunately far and few between with respect to VP being tested.

Thanks for any opinions on this subject.

Mark

Here's benchmark results for a variety of GPUs in VEGAS it has both rendering and playback. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b3ggVifKsuT-cp2kQHjum_KnQ4-2jBmUIvzmu7BQZ34/

Keep an eye on TechGage for upcoming hardware benchmarks using Vegas.

The Intel iGPU is optimum for decoding while a discrete GPU can handle Fx and the timeline preview.
For rendering Intel QSV also holds its own against VCE and NVENC.

AMD has good hardware that's frequently let down by buggy drivers. I wouldn't say it's better than NVIDIA in Vegas.

How well media will play back really depends on the media. What are you using?

I think it will be a while before getting a full picture on the discrete Intel iGPUs as their drivers seem very immature. Personally I'd look elsewhere, especially as you already have an Intel iGPU to help with decoding and encoding.
