GPU Support for Tesla M40 No Longer Available in V22?

Matt-B. wrote on 11/6/2024, 4:46 PM

I have moved from V18 to V22. In 18, I was able to use an NVIDIA Tesla M40 for GPU encoding. In V22 the GPU no longer appears.

Oddly enough, an older architecture GPU, a K2200, appears as a selectable option. Despite this I have enabled legacy GPU support to see if the M40 appears - nothing.

I have updated to the latest available NVidia drivers as of this posting with the same results (no M40 availability).

Anyone in a similar situation?

You seem to be lost.

To educate you: the GTX 900 Series is Maxwell architecture, same as the M40.

Is the newest driver it supports too old? This generation is Maxwell (900 series) so shouldn't be too old.

Driver is v566.03 released a few weeks ago.

Maybe contact support then as it should still work.

Ticket opened as of this morning. Was hoping to find someone with similar experiences in the forums. I think I saw someone with a K80, but they were having a completely different issue.

@Matt-B. John's quote came from the Vegas System requirements https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/product-comparison/#c286447. Presumably you are saying these are incorrect or misleading?

No, not at all.

John quoted system requirements.

My system falls within those requirements

John's suggestion to "move on" was unnecessary and unhelpful in this case.

To put any doubt to bed here, the GTX 900 Series uses the Maxwell Microarchitecture, specifically the second generation microarchitecture.

The M40 uses the same second generation Maxwell microarchitecture, has about 2.5x more cores, and 20GB more VRAM than the entry level 900 Series.

Unless I'm not seeing something, which, feel free to point it out, the problem does not appear to be the minimum system requirements.

Further, as stated, an OLDER GPU somehow functions fine (K2200 using Kepler microarchitecture).

So, no, I'm not saying the Vegas System Requirements are incorrect or misleading. I'm saying that bringing them up here in this situation is completely irrelevant as A) the system falls within those recommendations, and B) bringing up these recommendations does nothing to advance the discussion on GPU acceleration of video processing.

Hope this helps.

@Matt-B. I apologize for adding another brick to your load. I hope that Magix, Nvidia or Microsoft has a solution for you.

@Matt-B.
Your support ticket has been received and the team is investigating.

@Matt-B. Is the machine running VP18 the same machine that you're are running VP22 on?

And as I understand the Tesla doesn't have a socket for your monitor. What graphics card do you connect your monitor to?
