Graffiti - Standalone???

newhope wrote on 5/4/2004, 6:05 AM
Please set me straight. Sony advertises Graffiti3 LTD as a 'stand alone' program BUTTTTT the documentation that comes with Graffiti indicates it should appear as both a transistion and a videoFX within Vegas 5.

Well in my installation it certainly is 'standalone' as I don't see it within Vegas but it runs as standalone.

Is this correct or do I have a fault?

I believe if you upgrade for $149 to the full Graffiti product it will run as a plugin. I assume the documentation is the same for both products which may be part of the confusion. So Graffiti 3 LTD is standalone and Graffiti 3 full version is a plugin.

Hey Johnny,
If you purchase the Vegas 4 to Vegas 5 upgrade, does the Boris Graffiti come with that? Not sure if you need the entire package or not.

The Graffiti LTD (or LE or whatever) package comes with Vegas 5. It however is not a plugin and is more like a program demo. I already owned the full version but was still disappointed that more people would not get to try more than the standalone. I really like the program and Boris FX 7.0. They fill what I believe are deficiencies in Vegas' titling abilities and add some great effects at the same time.

The upgrade price $149.95 is quite reasonable however compared to the price of the full program.

David,

Yes if you purchase the Vegas 4 to Vegas 5 upgrade (either downloadable or boxed) Boris Graffiti LTD comes with it. You can also find Boris Graffiti LTD in the update section of the Sony web site. If you buy the boxed version like I did, you still need to go download Vegas 5.0a because 5.0 is what they were shipping on CD. There is also an update to Magic Bullet to 1.0.2 on that page.

>>...(either downloadable or boxed)...

Let me tell you, you do NOT want the downloadable. You want the physical CD.

The registration/re-registration process is so cumbersome, in my opinion, so as to make it that I will never buy any downloadables from Boris again.

The CD's are not so cumbersome in nature and are very good products.

For BorisFX 7 (Vegas plugin), you need to actually call and talk to someone at Boris to get a unique unlock code.

If you are like me and restore, tweak, backup/restore disk partitions and otherwise redo your system occasionally, this is a real pain...especially late at night when Boris is closed; when many people "redo" their systems. Each instance of install requires a unique unlock code. If you are running a dual boot system, you need 2 unique unlock codes. Writing down the codes do no good. Next time they will be different. The CD's do not require this.

Get the CD...not the downloadable.

I agree with Kentwolf about problems with Boris Downloads.

I purchased the upgrade to Boris Graffiti 3.0 on 04/30/04 and still have not succeeded with the "Unlock Code".

I have just received my third email today from Boris support to try and resolve the problem. I am not very optimistic about the outcome.

Have never experienced these problems with other software applications.

I though I would provide an update on my problems with successfully downloading my upgrade from Boris Graffiti LTD to Boris Graffiti 3.0.

After numerous emails with BorisFX Sales Support, it was successfully resolved today.

I have to say that whilst the whole process has been very frustrating, the support I received from BorisFX has been terrific.

They have acknowledged difficulties with their ESD downloading services and are trying very hard to resolve them.

As a measure of their commitment to customer service, the have shipped to me a copy of Boris Graffiti 3.0 on CD ROM via priority FEDX to me in Australia free of charge.

Now that is Great Customer Service!
