Graphics Add on For Vegas?

Hi all,

I'm putting together a training video for my platform tennis team. I'd like to be able to "draw" on the video. So put circles around things, add arrows, put in graphics to point out specific things.

I use vegas 5. I don't think there is an easy way to do this internally. Is there an addon or plug in piece of software that will do this?

If you don't need the drawing animated, but merely need the circles and arrows to appear now and then, consider using various symbol fonts such as WingDings. You can fade the symbols in and out, resize them, move them around the frame. You won't be able to acchieve the look of having a hand drawing the lines, but if you don't need that then fonts are a very simple way to go.

Yes, there is a freeware plugin to do things like this: Wax - available at www.debugmode.com .

Inside Wax there is a tool called RotoMate. RotoMate is for painting on video. And it also works inside Vegas.

I loaded up Wax this weekend. When I go to add it in as a plug in, I noticed therea are actually 5 seperate plug ins. Do I need to load all of them? Or did something get messed up in my install??

I can't remember. I think those are tools which can be used as plugins in Wax then, some like FreeFrame-plugins, VirtualDub, DirectX-plugins and so on.

You don't need them if you just like to use the RotoMate tool for painting on video. RotoMate is build in in Wax, doesn't need any further plugin installation.

Thanks.

If I want to use the Rotomate inside Vegas, don't I need at least one of them to use the program? Or is it easier to use Rotomate as part of Wax standalone and then save it.

I think I would prefer to use it prior to doing a render. I need to work with this more.

But if I want to use the RotoMate piece while inside Vegas prior to render, do I just put use the first plug in to get Wax up and running. Sorry for the newbie questions.

If you only want to use the RotoMate tool (even inside Vegas), you only need to install Wax itself, no further plugins.
RotoMate is part of Wax, so later on you would open Wax inside Vegas and then select the RotoMate tool inside the Wax plugin.

Be sure to have Dynamic Ram Preview (in Vegas Preferences) set to 0 MB Ram when using Wax!

I saw the dynamic ram issue and set to 0.

Okay, here is my newbie issue. How do I open it within Vegas. So if I have Vegas up and running and just execute the Wax program does that allow me to use it inside Vegas?

Thanks for being patient here. I'm still learning all this.

After you installed Wax (must have chosen the Vegas-plugin installation option) and then started Vegas you will find lots of Wax presets in the Vegas FX window. Drag an empty Wax preset from the FX window onto the desired clip in the Vegas timeline. Wax will open, select the RotoMate tool in Wax and start drawing.

Yes, I chose the plug in alternative (I can also open the program stand alone).

I'll use the preset method tonight to open it. Thanks for the help.

Hi Marco,

That worked for me. I see the plugins in the FX section and can use one of those to get me into Wax inside Vegas. It also works using one of the transitions (there are a bunch of new ones I like).
