Ed - [ might I call you that?] - your advise helped me through the night!

Actually, to my friends, it's Edward

YES - I do have VV 3.0c

Great - you don't need the download!

Q1: What is SMPTE? How would it relate to PAL? I've just plumped for 25fps in the Timeline. Yes?

I'm in NTSC land - you're in PAL. Choose the settings appropriate for you.

Q2: "Quantize to Frames" - WHo he? What does it do?

Make sure Quantize to Frames is ON. This will make sure your video frames start on a perfect frame. Previously (or with this turned off) it was easy to accidentally place video 1/2 frame, 1/4 frame off of where it needed to be. This setting helps eliminate that possibility.

Q3: I've got 256 RAM maximum in menu said 157 ? But a default of 64 appeared so I stayed with that. Yes?

Depends on whether you are going to use the RAM preview function and how much "time" you want to give to the RAM preview function. The more memory, the more time it can use. This is not a frequently used option for me.

Q4: Audio rate was defaulted to 44,100. Left it at that. Yes? What does the 48,000 do to performance? I suspect the higher the Audio rate the better the Audio quality.

Standard DV is 48,000. I would switch it to 48,000. Vegas Video has its' roots in Vegas Audio. Standard CD audio is 44,100. If you want to use video, 48,000 is the better choice.

Q5: What is the Batch Convertor that came on the INstall disc? Yeah, I know I can RTFM - but please just give me a "nod" in the right direction.

It is used to convert files between various formats. You can set up many conversions and it will process them all, one at a time, until all are completed. I have never used it.

OOooohhhh where to start.

Just play with it and ask questions until you reach your destination.

Grazie,

You’re welcome. I find that people on these forums, in general, do take the time to help each other and I’m just trying to give something back for all the answers I found while searching others posts. Glad I could help.
