Presumably your text is on a different track so don't apply Chroma Key to the text item or the track it's on.

There are 4 levels of effects range in vegas

Clip Specific lvl 1 - Applies only to individual cut from source file

Media Wide lvl 2 - Apply to a clip as Media FX will affect any other clip from the same source file

Track Wide lvl 3 - Apply to a track, affect's all media on that track

Project Wide lvl 4 - Apply to preview window, affect's entire project

Not sure exactly whats going on but whenever using the chroma keyer dropper you should almost always disable the effect by clicking the check box off before selecting a color from the clip.

There is another FX level: FX applied on Parent Tracks which will affect all the Child Tracks.

Yet another thing I didn't know about vegas or at least didn't realize. Anytime I have parented tracks it's either been for compositing mode or motion purposes.
