What kind of device are you capturing with? A 1394 bus or
analog device? If the latter, through parallel, USB, or PCI
bus? What brand device? Are the drivers recent? What kind
of cable are you using for the video? RCA composite? S-
Video? iLink? Where are the lines located? Are the
horizontal or vertical? On the frame edges or randomly
appearing? If you could provide us with some (or all,
preferably) of that information, we may be able to come up
with a solution. I'll monitor this thread for your response.
Everything is all new since December. I am capturing with
an ATI All-In-Wonder Video card. The source I am trying to
capture from is a Sony Hi8 video camera (S video,)although
I also get the lines if I try to capture cable TV (from the
video card) so the problem is probably not the source. The
lines are horizontal and appear randomly from the top to
the bottom of the picture. They vary in width, placement
and timing. One clue is that they are not always present
in every capture. I am trying to figure out a pattern (and
it is too soon to call) but I think I am more likely to be
successful right after I turn on the computer. Could
memory be the problem? The computer has 128 mb and the
video card has 32 mb.
I've been thinking about this for a long time now, and not
with much success. I can think of only a few things to try:
1. There could be an excess amount of heat building up in
your capture unit. If you can, buy a cooling kit to reduce
the heat-up (but that's ONLY if you know for SURE this is
the problem, since you wouldn't want to waste money).
2. There could be some electromagnetic interference. Move
your computer away from TV's and stereo equipment.
3. There could be faulty components in the capture unit. If
possible, get it exchanged and try capturing with a new
unit.
That's all I can think of. Try experimenting with those
three options and see if it works.
I'm not sure if this is your problem but...
All single chip camera's (like your Hi8) have the potential
to probuce "color artifacts" whenever hard color edges
appear on video. A perfect example is a black and white
checkered floor. Your camera, and my Digital8 for that
matter, will produce yellow and purple color streaks along
the edges of the checkers on the floor. This is a
limitation of the camera and not the capture card or the
software. Again, this may not be your problem.
This is quite likely related to the source material and
capture card settings. If the capture settings match the
source material, and then your VideoFactory project
settings match those of the captured file, you should get a
reasonable level of image quality.
It may take some experimenting to get all the settings
right-
