Greenscreen Background Size

I am going to make sort of a music video with a person singing in the foreground and another video running behind them so it looks as if they are in the other scene. But, what do I do to make the background video look bigger than the person in the foreground ? For instance lets say that the background video is a mountain scene. I don't want the person in the foreground to look as tall as the mountain tops. I just want to put him in the mountain scene. Do you size the foreground and background videos to look proportional, and if you do, how do I do that in Vegas ?

Thanks, Paul

Well, for the most part it sounds like you want to "pan/crop". If you right click on the background clip and choose "video event pan crop" you can see that you can zoom in on the subject and change its location.

Assuming your background green screen fills the whole shot then effectively the chroma key will turn the whole frame apart from the subject transparent. As was said before you can then just pan/crop the track to whatever size you want.

By far the hardest part is getting the inital green screen correct, the more effort you put into that the better the result. Your screen MUST be evenly lit, it must have no wrinkles.

Studio grade fluro lights are ideal. Also have a lttle amount of light shining onto the back of the subject from the bottom and is possible top of the screen onto the subject to cancel the green light bouncing off the screen onto them.

Thanks for the great advice. I am painting a muslin cloth with Rosco Chroma Key paint today. I have 4-100 watt stage lights from our old band that I am going to use to try to eliminate all shadows. If all goes well, I plan on shooting my first green screen video tomorrow just as a test. I'll give you guys an update.
