A while ago I went to the Sony Road show here in Malmö, Sweden to see the XD line of products shown at IBC in Amsterdam. After the British guy finished the demo I just had to ask him about any future plans for Vegas integration. He did not know too much about it but was very well aware of the Vegas/Forge/Acid products and he also mentioned us, the users, or "fan-base" or "veg heads" as he put it, and he was quite impressed/intrigued with us all. He had never seen such a loyal group of users before. Ever.

Sony should hire a Vegas user in each country where they do not have a presence and just have them put up a website of resources.

Does Vegas have a Swedish version?

They should also send a company memo to all their distributors.

Just for the record: I live in Portugal (Europe), and many people here don't even know what is Sony Vegas, NOT even the Sony workers and engineers. I work in TV station and most of my colleagues are starting to know Vegas through me, but they say it's a very complicated program!?!?, I'm superior minded!!! Or are they "locked in past" and afraied to evolve.

I was on the SATIS show last month in France, and I think that Sony Europe don't know Vegas. On their stand they show Hd camera, Xpri or Pinacle ... but nothing about Vegas??? French magazine Sonovision write an article about Vegas and SATIS... but nothing on the Sony stand.
They dont'want to sell this software ?

Actually, Vegas has a rather large user base in France. There used to be a guy here who runs a big French-Vegas user site, too (forgot his name, though). I'll see if I can find it online.

only until recently in Canada did Sony Canada even acknowledge there was such a product .. but two of their biggest Sony pro dealers don't sell it here at all or know anything about it ..

It looks like this is beginning to change at last.

I notice that at the forthcoming "VideoForum 2005" in January next year in London there will be a number of Sony workshops, including one on Vegas+DVD.

No Swedish version available. A while ago I translated software for a US company and your question makes me wonder why Sony doesn't translate the whole line of products. Of course, Sweden is a very small market but why not start with Japanese, French, German, Kantonese and Spanish?

This is I think a bit more complicated than we'd all like to believe and it goes back to the SoFo days. Back then there was a distributor network, the local company here in Australia was New Magic and they did a valiant job of flying the flag.
Now that Sony owns Vegas what should they do? Ditch the existing distributers who've done the hard yards and let the usual SonyStyle shops try selling it? Personaly I think that'd firstly be unfair to the old distributors and far from the best way to market the product(s).
Now even more complicated is that the old SoFo lineup comes under the Sony Pro banner, same as the PD170 etc. You can't buy a 170 from a Sony retail outlet.
So OK they hand it over to the pro dealer network except none of them are much into selling software, they're into VCRs, cameras and monitors. The really high end stuff comes direct from Sony Aus but they don't deal direct with the public period.
So I don't see any easy solution, yes every one who is on the Sony payroll should at least knows Vegas exists and be able to point you to where to buy it. But in all fairness you can't expect them to devote a lot of learning time to a product they'll never get a sales commission on. More importatntly the high end guys who flog XDCAM and XPRI sure as hell should know about Vegas, one of the best selling points for XPRI is Vegas integration. I'll stick my neck out here and say that the XPRI / Vegas integration is better than anything Avid have to offer, I haven't had the opportunity to try it out myself but you can bet I'll be nagging the Sony guys at NAB and heaven help any of them who go "Vegas??? never heard of it".

In Europe? Let me laugh. You SO MUCH got a point there. I'll digress but they're not even able to offer downloadable loops with Acid Pro 5 (you know, these "extras" you can get if you purchase "right now"?) so we don't have to pay for shipping here in Canada. And we're close neighbours !
So about Europe, my guess is "in 5 years"... :Y

A LOT of people around the world are waiting with the red carpet unrolled at the entrance but the "king" doesn't seem to be daring to come.

But the program is great and they know a lot of us are going to buy anyway.
But personally, I say these little "details" get stacked somewhere in my mind even if I don't want to.

What I don't understand is why the high end Sony media computer ships with Adobe Primere?
