Hard Drive question

Hey All,

I've an occasional "glitch" or skip in my print to tape. Sometimes it is fine. Sometimes it happens once or twice. Sometimes it happens a lot in one part, and then is fine for the rest of the time. Basically, it starts to seem like there's background activity on my C (OS) drive that is causing the "hiccups."

I ran a HD write/rewrite test, and my D: (media files) drive is around 25 MB/sec. My C drive, however, is at about 4 MB/sec. My question is twofold: If these are both 7200 rpm drives and I have on board ata/66, does it sound like the C drive isn't connected to the ata/66? If so, could that interfere with the print to tape?

Thanks

KH

- make sure DMA is enabled on both drives.
- defragment your drives before doing the hard drive benchmark.

keep in mind that if a drive is filled most of the way, it will have lower performance. an empty drive will give you the highest benchmark numbers.
