Hardware question

I am about to replace my old computer with something that would better cooperate with VMS (maybe SV Pro in future). I am said CPU is crucial, though other parameters, such as resolution of the display, also matter. For various reasons I'd rather buy a laptop. I wonder if anybody could help. Asus M60J (i7-720 QM, res. 1366x768), Dell Studio 1747 (i7-720 QM, res. 1920x1080, but very new product, no tests available yet)? I must admit I love the looks and some other features of new VAIO VGN-FW 51ZF/H, such as fullhd resolution, interesting software, Blu-ray disc. But it comes with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9600. Or should I, after all, decide on a desktop with some i7-920? Another question concerns OS: is there any serious advantage of w7 professional over w7 hp for the VMS requirements? Thanks in advance

You don't tell us the most important info: what camera you want to use with that new PC.

You see, if you have a miniDV camera, you don't need a new PC. If you have an HDV camera, a 5-year old 3 Ghz P4 is enough. If you have AVCHD, a 2.4 Ghz DualCore or faster is enough. And if you want a Canon 5D/7D, then even the fastest PC in the world won't be enough.

So it all depends on the format you will be working with.

It's sony hdr-tg7ve (small AVCHD handycam). Thanks & sorry for the incomplete info. So far I haven't processed much of fullhd material because of my obsolete computer. But I am planning to.
