Looks like I am going to have to buy a new laptop. In dealing with HD videos and rendering speed, which hardware will give me the most bang for my buck. 1: processor ( dual or quad ), 2: graphics card 3: RAM ( how much above 4 gigs is relevant ?
If it were me, I'd opt for a quad core (ideally an i7) processor and Windows 7 64-bit with 6 gigs of RAM.
If you can get a computer with two internal drives, you'll also have the option off using one drive for your operating system and program files and the other for your project and media files, which greatly improves editing performance.
Does the rendering happen in the main core or does it get farmed out so to speak to the video card or RAM?
Also, I have been saving all my HD files on an external drive lately, but i can't really tell any difference in speed of rendering good or bad since I started that.
