Sounds like you have a Creative Labs Video Blaster. This is an analog video device, so the captures will not be the greatest and you can't capture anything over 640x480.
If you are serious about doing video editing and you can fork over some bucks, consider purchasing a firewire card (OHCI 1394 compliant, about $30-60), a Canopus ADVC-100 (about $289-$300), and a Dual Head video card like the Matrox G450. The Canopus will allow you to convert your analog video from the camcorder to Digital thru the firewire card in full NTSC or PAL format. Not only do you maintain the original quality, it also produces a smaller file. With an extra monitor and a dual head video card, you can move your preview Window and view it full size on the second monitor and view more tracks of your project on the main display. With the Canopus, you can also preview on an external monitor.
