When, i repeat, when will i use External Devices as this one

to control Vegas features and transports? Why is it so hard
to integrate MMC protocol in Sonic Foundry products?
U-8 it's only one of the bunch... Tascam too have announced
a similar device; the concept is very basic: 1 or 2 MIC
IN's with balanced XLR and 48V phantom power, 8 LINE IN's
with at least 2 high-impedence in's for guitar pickups,
jog/shuttle and transport control, internal AD/DA and 1
(ONE) cable connected to the computer, the USB one.
That's why i like it, total control, full integration and
no Spaghetti Syndrome in my bedroom... (not everyone can
use these kind of products in Bahamas-Big-Budget-Studios).
