Hi guys. I'm just wondering if any of you might know of a way to remove black frames, from say a VHS capture, at the hardware level, as I capture. I know of at least 1 software solution, (HOS). I can't believe that a hardware solution does not exist after all these years. I feel like these types of issues would be better addressed in the analog space.

But isn't hardware basically unintelligent? If whatever hardware used (e.g. firewire) is able to identify and eliminate black frames, surely that hardware would require some form of inbuilt software that identifies and skips black frames. And firewire hardware is an analogue to digital conversion process (as are other more modern options) so expecting the analogue to digital converter to do black frame elimination while in analogue form prior to its conversion to digital is a big ask - and surely would work better when a digital stream.
BTW, just as a matter of interest, what is the cause of the black frames in the VHS media? VHS tape glitches? Original camera glitches? Black frames between different shots/recordings? Etc.

All of the above. Especially the very last scenario.
