Hardware updates

Think editing somehow could become a bit faster on my computer. It seems a bit slow sometimes. You have to wait for it to finish after adding or moving things around. Timeline need to be rewritten, transitions/effects are not shown correct in pre-view window, etc. Not sure why? Harddrive/SSD/M.2, memory, CPU, Network?

I'm considering some upgrades to speed things up. New faster and larger M.2 disk already ordered. CPU I think is OK, 16 cores, seldom se it go over 50% utilization. Graphic card ok, even for rendering.

DDR4 memory are not that expensive. I got 32GB today.  I can’t say Vegas Pro 20 seem to utilize all available memory, never seen it use more than 20GB. Will Vegas app somehow notice if I put in 64GB and start use more?

Still think Vegas 20 is good, the best so far, but is there anything you can do, to take it one step further?

What are the main bottle necks for Vegas in editing mode?

I have no problem with the rendering in general. Sure, quicker is always better.

It's media decoding and the video engine most likely.

What is your CPU and GPU model?

What specific media are you working with and what Fx?

I mainly work with private 4k clips done with my Nikon Z6.
AMD5950X
AMD RX6800

I cant see any statistics pointing out anything that is near 100% utilization.
Maybe its just me being impatient. :-)

For the z6 clips can you share details. Is it HEVC? AVC? 10-bit, 8-bit? MediaInfo gives all this at one time. If it's HEVC in preferences/ file io try enabling or disabling legacy HEVC and see how the performance differs.

If you want to see if the system is working normally you are welcome to try one of the benchmarks in my signature and compare it to similar systems.

There are almost always bottlenecks of some sort preventing 100% utilization (and that's okay- if the GPU is doing its job the CPU will not get overwhelmed).

I wouldn't spend more money on ram if the existing ram isn't being fully used.
