Has anyone else had this problem

I have been using VMS 4.0 for about two years and just encounter a problem that I have not seen before. I have about a 12 minute video consisting of stills and video clips with music and titles added.. I rendered to mpeg in VMS and got the following error message:"Unable to mix audio. The operation timed out." I tried to play the file in Windows Media Player and got the following msg"Could not play the file . One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found." Note that the video played OK. One more piece of info. This is the first time that I have used an audio program(Audacity) to boost the level of the audio from the video clip. I amplified the audio and them exported in Wav format to VMS. The amplified audio played OK in VMS. Should I have created a different format for VMS in Audacity? Note I was able to render to avi in VMS and let DVD Arch render to mpeg. Thanks for your help in advance
