Has Vegas Always Been Doing This ? (Levels Import)

maybe I'm having some kind of senior moment here, but my memory seems to insist that switching from 8-bit to 32-bit full range (view transform off) had no effect on clip levels provided no fx were being applied.

That is, if you drag an mp4 or mts file onto the timeline and then flip back and forth between modes, the preview window and scope level didn't change.

But now, when I put an mp4 (or other video file) onto the timeline, in 32FR mode, Vegas converts the levels from studio to computer. This is the same view I get if I import a video file into photoshop. In Vegas, the end result is exactly the same as if I put a studio-to-computer fx on the clip in 8-bit mode. Huh? I don't remember this happening.

Is this a V13 change? Or did my system change in some way? Or am I just losing my mind? :)

I just tried it Vegas Pro 11 and the levels expanded when changing the project properties from 8 bit to 32 bit floating point (full range). The levels did not expand when changing project properties to 32 bit floating point (video levels).

I won't comment about you losing your mind.

Edit:

I checked Vegas Pro 9, 10 and 12 and the behavior was the same.

I don't believe my vegas pro 13 does this. 32FP Video mode works fine, but 32FP FULL RANGE goes off the charts.

Depends on the source.

It's always done this, I believe that's the reason several versions ago they added the "video levels" variant.

thanks guys! I'll take losing my mind over having to track down some win update or video card setting switch... :)
