having problems using mpeg-4 in Vegas. Help! :)

Ok, last year at this time (durring the Vegas 4 beta) I made a project with the V4 Beta that included some AVI's, Microsoft Mpeg-4 v2 video codec, 320x240, & 29.97 fps. The project worked nicely.

Now, a year later, I want to make a DVD mpeg-2 file. But, when I load up the project (still have all media, only took up 300mb) the AVI's no longer show up (well they ARE there, audio shows up but video is black).

So anyone have any ideas on what I can do to use the AVI's? I've tried loading them into Vegas and no video shows. Acid does the same thing. SF does the same thing. TMPGenc won't open the file at all. Some of these programs tell me I don't have the propper decompresser but the files play file in media player.

Anyone able to offer help? The smallest AVI is 1.5mb, so i could e-mail it or put it on the net if someone wants to try to convert them for me.

thanks!

you are somewhere missing the codec used to make the vid originally, or Vegas has lost it's association. If you've used DivX and loaded the latest version, it may have killed that association.

I did load up the latest free Divx last time I re-installed windows. You know of any way to find the codec I need (I used abc AVITag Editor to find out the codec)

(long time lurker - first time poster).
Just taking a stab in the dark here. Will the clip play in Media Player? If so, it could be that, for whatever reason, Vegas has decided that it doesn't like that particular codec. What I've done in the past is to load the clip into VirtualDub and resave it using a codec such as Huffyuv. Then Vegas sees it.
BTW, try GSpot at http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to find out what the codec is. HTH.

Yeah, it does play in media player. I'll try the v-dub thing (not even sure if i have it installed).

Thanks for posting the first time: i fogot about v-dub!

I tried v-dub and got the same results. Does anyone know where I can download the MS Mpeg-4 v2 codec? I can't find it on their site and I changed the fourcc to Divx, but thevideo is screwed up.

Should be able to download it from here: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/mpeg4codec.html

Hey, that fixed it. Thanks VERY much! :) Now I can render the project!

Glad to see you finally got it work. I'm surprised that vdub didn't do though.
