having problems with chapters, wont burn

hi folks, i'm fairly new to vegas (about 3 weeks in) so excuse me if this question seems a little dumb.
i have been doing good so far with the program, until now. i am composing a dvd video, containing music videos. now, i got the trimming, the transitions, crossfades, all down perfect, but when i insert chapters in beetween videos, to seperate one from another, and then burn to disk, or save to my drive (which is what i usually do, to see playback performance, before burning), i notice that the chapters are not there anymore. basically i just have 1 long mpeg file. why is this? i have read the manual quite a few times, on this section, but i cant seem to find an answer.
if anybody can help me out with this question, it would be greatly appreciated.

With out more details, I have to sort of guess. You can only put the chapters in, in the DVD-A software part. Be sure it's a chapter and not a start marker. I don't know how you'd save it like this to your hard drive. Unless you burned a DVD and then ripped it. You can see the playback performance in the DVD-A using the 'Preview' feature. It will jump up to chapter markers and play back AC3 files and basically let you see what your DVD will look like. The quality of the video doesn't look that good on my computer using the DVD preview, but it gives me a good idea of what to expect as far as how it works. Sometimes I'll burn to a DVD-RW, just to make sure it looks okay on TV too. Hope this was helpful.

thanks for the reply, basicaly, after i create my project sort of speak, meaning, after i add all the music videos that i want to the timeline, and add transitions in beetween, i then go back to each and every spot that i want to add a chapter, and i do this by opening the insert screen, and adding a marker to the place of my choosing.
as for the saving to my drive, i basically just go to tools, burn cd, multimedia.
i format as mainconsept mpeg-2, and my template is dvd ntsc, i just choose where i want to save to under..file path. but since were on the subject, (i just remembered about this problem)....why is it that even after i choose my template as dvd ntsc, it still only creates an mpeg file instead of a dvd file?

MPEG-2 is the DVD file used when you burn DVDs.

I'm assuming here that when you are talking about creating, you mean rendering?

If so, you need to check the option box: Render markers as chapter points, or similar. Then when you import the MPEG into DVDA to burn the DVD, it will use the markers as chapter points.

i'm sorry , yes i meant rendering, but i cant find the option box, i looked under options, then went to preffrences, but still did not see it, where exactly is it at?
oh and yes i know, that mpeg-2 is the file for dvd, but what i meant is that, i was thinking that it was going to convert it to a vob file.

When you select render as from the file menu, you should see 3 boxes (from memory, I'm not in front of vegas), one of which is the render markers as chapters box.

The vobs appear after the burning software burns the dvd, it uses the mpeg as the file base from which to burn :)

hey bud, i went to the file menu, render as, and saw the three check boxes, but they say: stretch media file, save project markers in media file, render from network. are you talking about the save project markers in media file checkbox?

That's exactly what he's talking about. Make sure that's selected.
And remember, when you bring it into DVD Architect, you actually have to go in to the "show" before the markers will show up. Simply double-clicking on it from the explorer window only puts it on the menu page. You have to double-click that link to get the chapters to show up in your timeline.

thanks, check this out though, i tried adding the chapters with nero 6, and noticed that the process is much faster (meaning that, lets say i reneder through the tools menu, as multimedia, like i was doing before, then the rendering process would only take about 3 hours, then i would open up my rendered mpeg-2 file in the nero editor, add chapters, and finish through nero, which would only take about 15-20 minutes more. now i am trying this in vegas, with the check box checked for chapters, and its telling me 10 hours. will it make a diffrence, if i go through nero to speed up my rendering time?
