HD back to SD ??

I read elsewhere that some like to record in HD and then have final edited footage in SD but still retain original HD footage on archived tape.

Why?

You or your customer can not view HD yet.

Let's say you videoed a wedding. However, the couple doesn't have an HD TV player. They still want to see their video, so you deliver a SD DVD.
You keep the original HD footage, because two years later, they go out and buy and HD TV and want their wedding in HD. Now you still have that option. Also when you go from HD to SD, you get really good looking SD because the encoder is starting off with a higher quality and many more pixels to play with.
