HD burned to DVD unplayable

Thanks to those who responded to my post of 21st Jan explaining that high definition rendered on VMS10 and burnt to DVD is not playable on a Sony S370 blu-ray player. Having tried a variety of settings, discs can only be played on my computer. I have had some partial success saving the render as an AVCHD file and burning this. The S370 lists it as a data disc and will play it, but in a jerky fashion. So it seems that the two Sony products are not fully compatible! Any further suggestions gratefully received.

There are several threads on the DVDA forum that deal with the question of making compliant AVCHD discs, including this one http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=746220&Replies=7.

The general answer is that Sony software does not produce fully compliant discs, although they play on some Blu-ray players. You can make an ISO, mount it and modify the files or you can use other software, such as the free MultiAVCHD to make more compliant discs.

If you're talking about actual SD DVDs and not HD-based DVDs, then try a different kind of DVD disk. Maybe the brand/format of the one you're trying to burn on is not compatible with the player. I don't believe that Vegas burns actual DVDs that can't be played on Sony players.

As for AVCHD, that's another matter. Only few players can play these AVCHD disks.

Thanks for the response. I've now found a way to do it. Render using Sony AVC/AVCHD, pass it through tsMuxer (set to M2TS Mux) and burn to DVD. This plays on my Sony S370 player.
