HD Confused

I would hope that someone would elaborate in outline form the different HD, HDV, AVCHD writing softwares (Bluray, HD-DVD, 3xAVCHD,3xHD-DVD, 3xBluray) and the results of same including which model players work with which firmwares. This has to be the biggest mess since the big oil spill in Alaska.

I can talk about 3x dvd with certainty... so I will..

I've done probably more than 100 DL 3x dvd's and every one has come out perfect. At the full 25000 bitrate you can get 40 minutes on a DL disk, but I regularly drop the bitrate to 19000 for 52 minutes on the disk and no ill effects. But in a nutshell... pretty much anything you can do with a regular dvd.... you can do on 3xdvd

I use Vegas fro the capture/edit then export to file as m2v/wav. The wav goes onto Adobe Audition 2 where it is cut, diddled, and played with and I end up exporting 3 stereo wav's to file (front, center, and rear).

The m2v and wav's are imported to Pinnacle studio 11.1 where I burn a HD DVD with DD5.1 sound and sometimes menus. It all goes off without a hitch. If you use verbatim disks then you are pretty much guarantied to come out with a disk that will play on ANY hd dvd player.... including the Xbox.

I have only just recently started to play with BD and red laser avchd through Pinnacle studio. And from what it looks like so far... it's also a pretty stable system, and may even have the advantage of fitting more on a DL disk. I may as a result end up getting a BD player as well... but THAT is the part it seems is not quite settled yet.... some are saying it works on all players.... some are saying not.

I have not lately played with Ulead products. I have shied away from that since my last encounter years ago when it appeared that not much was working on them... maybe that has change... but 2 things I know is that 1): the Pinnacle encoder is a better quality than Ulead (Pinnacle studio uses the same render engine and encoders that are housed in Avid Liquid), and 2): Pinnacle studio is NOT perfect.... there are bugs and you need to know how to work around them! Studio also handles both hd dvd and avchd encoders much the same way as any other. In otherwords you are not restricted to using avchd for a avchd cam... you can output in what ever format you wish. It does not however accept m2t files which I have always found a bit strange. Instead it accepts (and captures in ) a m2v/wav format.

Laurence I think is probably better suited to talk about Ulead, so I'll stop here.

I think it's OK to discuss other software in a forum but I don't feel it's appropriate to Promote other software. Especially when a person is using one of the best windows video editors like Vegas and does so because of it's stability / reliability, not to mention the fact it's their professional field & income.

I strongly suggest attempting new ventures on a secondary test computer or you may end up having a really bad day.

Whaaaat?

I think you may have the wrong idea... nobody is promoting anything here. What is being discussed are things that Vegas can not do and therefore other programs MUST be relied upon. I know about Pinnacle and I am merely passing on my observations. I HOPE that others join in and teach me a few things about what the other programs of this nature can do.

This is a very interesting topic... and we're all teachers as well as students here... Please don't try and turn this into something that it is not.

If Vegas can't do something and you want to keep Vegas then you MUST KNOW what other software does what Vegas can't!

Sorry, The word Promote may not fit what I was trying to express.
I just thought that some of the detailed instructions, or exact 'How-To's' get rather involved or lengthy similar to a support page of the product itself. Maybe the words detailed usage would be a better definition.

I don't think it's wrong to mention other software & it's features. Just how deep on the instructional useage side of the product was my point. To me this is promoting or supporting.
Doesn't matter, bad computer day on my end.

Sorry if my post was rude.
