HD in vegas 8

I finally broke down and bought an HD video camera. (HC-X900M from panasonic) problem is, i can't bring in the full 1080 60 clips into vegas 8. When I film in the lower quality settings it works, but do I have to upgrade to a better version of vegas for full HD? I've been upgrading since sonic foundry and try to hold off as long as i can. But if it's time, i guess it's time. Also do I just assume that I go to 12 or is theresomething better in between. Thanks, Sam

Not stated and not in your profile are your system hardware specifications. Since you now have HD video encoded with avc, you could probably benefit from some of the improvements in later versions of Sony Vegas Pro as they relate to handling avc. That being said, some on the forum have used 8 without feeling compelled to upgrade.

I have Vegas Pro 8.0c, and I can get through it using intermediates (DnxHD, Cineform). But on a dual core, it's still not full frame rate, just passable.

1080 60 "P"? I use V8c with my Pana GH2 footage fine. But 60p isn't a built in option in the Vegas templates, so it may not be supported since 60p didn't exist back then except for 720 60p?

Was there a software disc included with your camera? Maybe it has all of the codecs on that and will install them for you?

I ran into that problem when I bought my daughter a Panasonic camera.
Try reading this thread for the solution. It works fine.

You may wise to look into the suggestion of possible issues with Panasonic cams. When I was using Vegas 8 (I now use v.10), I never had any problems with HD footage from my Canon. Each manufacturer has their own quirks or ways to process/record footage.

I edit all my HD footage in Vegas 8. I have both a Sony FX-1 (HDV) and for field work and backup camera a Sony CX700 (AVCHD, 60p). I get full preview frame rate on both, but the AVCHD does bog down pretty quickly if I add fX and compositing.

I have Vegas 10 & 11, and every time I have tried editing in those, they are so full of bugs that I start screaming. I couldn't bring myself to spend money for Vegas 12. I wrote extensively about it the middle of this thread:

Between my anger at the horrible software and the lack of help provided to the OP and me, I pretty much gave up on these forums for the next year. I've recently been posting more, but that is probably temporary.

However, back on topic, Vegas 8 works just fine with 60p AVCHD material, although the newer versions of Vegas -- if and when they actually work -- will give you snappier timeline performance.

[edit] Before I purchased the Sony CX700, I did try some clips from the Panasonic TM700 and TM900. Your camera sounds like it may be similar. If you upload a 5 second clip somewhere, I'll take a look and see what I can do with it in the various versions of Vegas.
