HDD Camcorder MPEG2-PS Files

I have bought a Sony DCR-SR90 HDD Camcorder, a new PC (2.1GHz Core 2 duo, 2GB memory, 7900GS 256MB graphics) and Sony Movie Studio 6 platinum. (It was bonus month!).

I am struggling to come up with the correct project settings and render settings to create an MPEG2 file at the correct size. Many settings result in stretched or squashed video and all presets seem to relate to editing captured DV footage.

By using PAL DV widescreen settings and using the 'stretch' option when rendering, the size is correct but the video is quite stuttery when fast moving and the quality looks worse than the original MPEG2 file. By using other settings I can get a smooth video but the picture is squashed!

If I try to maintain the settings of the source video then the result is a file where the video is smaller, so there is a large black border around the entire picture!

Can anybody help with how I can get the proper results from these Camcorder files, or point me to any help files?

Thanks very much.
