HDMI compared with Component

I Have a multimedia player which I have connected to a plasma 1366 x 768 screen using an HDMI connection

Will component connection give me wider range size wise of playable content compared to HDMI?

Have heard that if my content is produced at say 1366 x 768 mpeg with HDMI connection the player will not play that clip
Compared to component connection, will this make a diference?

Thanks
Rory

I'd look into the formats your player can output and target your render for one of those. The plasma screen is probably going to just scale the player's output to fit the screen's resolution.

<edit> Component output will probably also be restricted by the player's capabilities </edit>

I also have a 50" plasma with 1366x768. It is connected to an Apple mini.
After days of "trial and not good" with DVI etc I found that the best soloution was a RGB connection with 1360x768 - as this gave way the best quality.
I have always wondered why it had to be 1360 and not 1366 - can not say why, but there is a clear difference between theese two settings in my setup.

Some players will not output full HD resolution via component and you must use HDMI.

Some players will not play video greater than 720p without HDCP. (They scale anything higher than 720P down to 720P).

And HDCP is something that would probably be required over the HDMI connection but not the component connection.

The bottom line is that your player will support certain frame sizes, will quite possibly scale the output, and your semi-HD plasma screen will also scale the inputs to fit its display. You need to tailor your video to whatever the player will support.

The Mac Mini is a special case since it probably supports a wide range of computer display resolutions. If your player is really a computer then you may have more choices (and more complexity)

Thanks for the info guys

Already this will save me some wasted time on testing
The 1360x768 sounds promising…

I had to look up HDCP …very interesting, the problem is that the media players tech specs are very uninformative they simply say ”supports mpeg, avi, vob”
But they do not give frame size, codec, bitrate info

Give it about a year this forum will be full of questions not for DVD as much as multimedia players

Rob its an Iomeaga screenplay HD

Someone hopefully can give some feedback

I am looking at doing work for a new client and supplying content on one of these or similar
But need to make sure I have all my facts straight before I approach them
