HDSR12 AVCHD & Vegas MS Platinum

CONTEXT: I recently bought the tribe: a new PS3; SR12 Camcorder; VAIO TZ298N (1.3 processor on Vista w 2GB RAM); Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and two exeternal 1TB hard drives (WD and Maxtor). I'm new to AVCHD video, Vegas editing and PS3 and shot continuous hours of footage (mondo large gig files).

QUESTIONS:
1. Can I get PS3 to recognize a non FAT32 formatted HD (so that I can save and play larger than 4GB rendered files from an external NTSF drive);

2. How can I get Vegas to split my original mondo large AVCHD files into smaller than 4GB file segments? (it's a non-destructive editor)

3. Other than my not being an idiot in filming hours of continuous footage without stopping; any suggestions on training vids, manuals, FAQs or other support materials to help me along the path of wising up and filming right?

Thanks so very much for any and all feedback on the above.
Best, Robby

No.

Cut away what you don't want. You can also set in and out points and when rendering only render what's between those.

There are lots of books, others can probably recommend. There is nothing wrong with shooting hours of hours of footage.

Thanks!

I didn't think so on the PS3 FAT32, but was hopeful...

On your number 2 answer, is there a way to learn more about cutting files down as well as setting in and out points in order to reduce AVCHD files down to <4GB size? I tried doing that a couple times and am still figuring it out...I was first unable to render and keep the sound using 5.1, as I only wanted to keep the center channel volume (pickup through a wireless mic; the others picked up a lot of noise).

I'm also unable to render edited files into the original mts format.

Thoughts?
