HDV Audio Sync issues

I'm capturing 1080p/24 HDV clips from my Canon HV20 using the HDV capture tool in Vegas 7.

I opened one of these mt2 files on the timeline, and I'm noticing the audio is slightly out of sync.

System:
Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.4GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
2 Gigs of RAM
On board sound card

Would I expect audio to be out of sync on the timeline?

I found on the HV20.com forum a strange tidbit:

"... the first thing I'd try is making the sound 104.2709% of its original length. "

Does this make any sense to anyone. Do I really have to tweak the audio this way to get it in sync? Is this the correct amount?

Thanks,

David

I can't speak for HDV, since I'm still in standard def, but here are some things to check:

Are you using ASIO drivers on your soundcard? If so, try the "Windows Classic" drivers instead.

Make sure your project settings match the material (i.e. HDV format)

Try setting your Video Preview window to "Good|Full, Good|Auto or Preview|Full."

That would only apply if changing from 24fps to 25fps, wrong advice.
Most likely the problem is simply in you monitoring, you can adjust an offset in the preferences but first check something with very obvious sync like a hand clap on the timeline. Don't listen and look, look at the waveform and the vision on the timeline. If it really is out of sync ungroup the audio and video tracks, slide one until they're in sync and then regroup them.

BTW it is possible to record things out of sync or so they appear out of sync. Sound travels much slower than light.
