HDV editing issues

So I have a lot of footage that was imported into Final Cut as HDV 1080i60 clips.
I used VLC to change the mov wrapper to a TS wrapper.

Now the files open up in Vegas, but it can barely handle playing them. Why is Vegas choking so badly? I am on XP with a Quadcore and 3 GBs of RAM.

Any ideas about what to do without compromising resolution/quality?

Why did you not just import the HDV into Vegas as M2v files. Vegas handles HDV just fine.

I don't have access to either the tapes or a deck. I was given all the footage on a harddrive....
