You need to use a program like NERO or even some freeware that is designed to not only burn "regular" DVDs, but also data DVDs.

In NERO Start,Smart you will be guided through the process.

Be aware that even a DVD has only 4 gb of space for a raw HDV file. As you know, an hour of HDV is 12 gb.

Thank you DSCalef

Any suggestions on freeware? This is probably a one time thing for me.

Again, "thank you".

Doesn't Windows have some rudimentary disc burning built in? You could try dragging the file to the drive letter of your DVD burner in explorer. I suppose it's possible that Windows might see that it's a video file and try to burn a Video DVD instead, but it's worth a shot.

Windows XP's internal disc burning routines will only work on CDs, not DVDs. It may be that Vista's internal routines can do DVDs also, but I can't say for sure.

For free DVD burning software I'd suggest ImgBurn.

and if you're trying to write files larger than 2 gb in size, you need to use the UDF file format. (available in Nero and Imgburn)
