HDV tape capture issue

SWS wrote on 1/8/2013, 3:24 PM
Lately I capture from CF cards with great success but today I needed to capture HDV tape from my SONY Z7.

Windows 7 is seeing the camera(by name) fine but Vegas 11 or 12 won't recognize the camera or let me control it. I'm getting "Device Not Available" in the capture window. The device " IEEE 1394/Mpeg-TS Device" is showing as the selected in Prefs but I can't control it or see playback in the capture window even if I play the camera manually.

And by the way this is also the case in Premier Pro CS6. I've tried on my other computer with Vegas 9, 10 with no success. If I select "DV" capture instead of "HDV" I can control the camera but the capture screen is black.

I have captured from HDV tape before...been awhile, as I said, but can't figure what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

You might need to install the legacy 1394 drivers.
My Win 7 install works fine with HDV and my VCR so for some reason this issue seems a bit hit and miss.

Thanks Bob! I'll see if I can figure that out.

Hoping it's nothing more that finding the driver online and installing it...

Well that wasn't to hard. I seem to have found 'em. And now in the device manager it shows "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)" as the driver installed.

But still doesn't seem to work...oh boy! Guess it may be something else or I didn't do it correctly...

I am seeing picture now and camera control in "DV" capture though.

Thanks!

Check camera / VCR settings.
Firewire interface must be in HDV...NOT Auto.

Good thought...but it was on AUTO!

Looks like the camera's "i.LINK CONV" was set to ON. That seems to be the culprit..TA DA!!!! All's working now!

Thanks for giving me some sort of clue!
