Johnmeyer,

"1440 x (1.50 / 1.333) x (0.9091 / 1.3333) = 1104.56"

Wow. That really does fill up the frame! But...

Is the true output accurate? I just applied your factor to my latest render. It's now on it's 12th hour of rendering and almost done. Deadline Tuesday so I can't experiment. My last similar project took 6 hours.

I'm afraid the output will be squished or stretched. I'll have to experiment later...

Yes, it is absolutely accurate.

I had a brief correspondence off-line with someone at Sony and they asked why I didn't just right-click in the dialog and choose "match output aspect." The reason is that this assumes that you are using SD project settings. If you want a more general approach that works with HDV or other project settings, then you have to know the numbers. Obviously, once you have the "magic numbers," you save them as a preset.

There must be a way to render to SD and crop without setting options on every event? ... This must be a very common request, has anyone figured it out?

I created a workflow, using the suggestions from this thread, that worked very well in my first HDV -> SD DVD project. Here it is:
