Heart Shape Iris

I cannot find, within Vegas, a heart shape cookie cutter to use for an Iris transition. How would I create and implement one in Vegas? From what I am reading it seems I could create a heart shape in Photoshop, then use that shape as a mask, but I cannot grasp the steps in completing this. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

http://www.chienworks.com/media/heart-iris/

This directory contains four files. heart.gif is a still image used for the heart-shaped mask. heart-iris.veg is a sample Vegas 4 project file showing how to use this mask. heart-iris.wmv is the output from this project. screenshot.gif shows what my screen layout looked like while creating this project. The .veg file uses solid colors generated inside Vegas, but these are easily replaced with your own clips.

At the point where you want the transition to start, place the mask image on the top video track, the next clip to transition into on the track immediately below that, and the previous clip on a track below that. Click on the compositing switch in the track header of the next clip to use the track above it as a mask. Stretch or shrink the mask image to the desired length of the transition.

Using track motion on the mask track, set a keyframe at the beginning of the transition and set the size of the image to 0x0. At the end of the transition set another keyframe and set the size large enough so that the frame is completely filled with the interior of the mask image. In this case, i needed to set the size to about 2.5x the size of the image file.

At the end of the transition, split the next clip and drag the part after the split down to the track containing the previous clip.

Hmmm. How very odd. I just tried putting my own pictures into this .veg file instead of the generated solid colors. To my utter surprise, the "next" image grows with the mask instead of staying a constant size. I don't recall this happening in Vegas 3. Even if i give the "next" track it's own track motion and set all the keyframes to the media's actual size, it still follows the track motion of the mask track. Weird.

Any thoughts anyone?

Where are you seeing the black rectangle? The black border around the heart should blend in invisibly with the background of the mask track.
