720x480 photoshop image
import to vegas project set at 720x480
image displays with black areas on top and bottom

I see that its the pixil aspect ratio because when i set it to 1.00 mutimedia the image displays fine.

But this project is going to be shipped out for use in a DVD project.

What should I set the aspect ratio to for the DVD project.

Am I going to have to make my image in PS a different size???

OK...More research on the Adobe AE forum shows I must set my PS grahics to 720x534 and import them to a 720x480 project to output for mpeg2 in a dvd.

the problem is when i import a 720x534 into a vegas 720x480 I get letterboxing on the left and right???

Thanks!!!!

I am also doing screeen capture movies that are brought into the video editor to be mixed with still images. Even when I capture my screen at 720x480, Vegas causes me to have to uncheck 'maintian pixil aspect" upon import to timeline with DV project settings.

so I am gathering that screen capture movies are square pixil? and should be treated like photoshop images?

It gets even meesier when i try to convert to mpeg2..my 720x480 vegas render gets squishid out of porportion in the dvd software as mpeg2.

For screen capture stills

Right-click on the Video Preview and pick "Display at project size" . Also set preview quality to best.

Set your project property "Interlace" format to "progressive" and the (advanced property) "Deinterlace method" to "Interpolate" so you won't get any interlace artifacts in your images. Make sure to set the interlace property back before you render your project, you only want progressive for the still capture step.

Use "Save Timeline snapshot to file" because it deals with pixel aspect ratio, while "Copy Snapshot" does not.

Thanks

I kind of follow the deinterlace sugestion but Im not quite sure.

My problem is getting my finished elements to display right in vegas and render out to 720x480- Then they will be converted to mpeg2 for DVD

my finisged elements are:

PS images at 720x480>In "event" Crop/Pan" uncheck "maintain" ...I got that.

Screen capture movies.....recorded at 864x576 ( Ineed to cpature bigger screen area than 720x480).....How can I bring these into the 720x480 Project?

It seems when I uncheck "event" Crop/Pan" uncheck "maintain" the screen captured movies

Easy solution: If you have a 720x480 graphic that should be pixel aspect ratio 0.9091, then bring up the media properties for that media, and set the pixel aspect ratio to 0.9091. This will remove the black bars on the top/bottom, as would be expects. No fancy pan/crop needed.
