HI all,

I can´t get my DV OUT of my camera (SONY DCR-TRV120E) to work. Don´t know why. After someone messed with the settings I had no more DV OUT.

I got a new Sony Mini DV cam and want to capture my old Video8 tapes (playing on my old cam) through SVIDEO into my new cam. Then from my new cam DV OUT to the PC.

OLD CAM ==SVIDEO==>NEW CAM==DVOUT==>PC (vegas4)

I can see the image on the vegas capture window but if I click on CAPTURE VIDEO it will start the SECOND CAM and will not capture the video playing in the first cam.

Can anyone help?
Thanks
djoni

Have you tried disabling device control on the preferences? By doing this, the capture program won't "start" the camera.

It's a setting in the menu system. Turn on the camera in PLAYBACK mode (NOT in the mode for taking pictures) and then bring up the menu. Go through each item in the menu structure and you will find an item that controls whether the camera is set up to convert incoming analog into digital, or whether it is set up for the reverse operation, namely converting digital information from the computer into analog for printing back to tape. This latter way of operating is the default.

If something has gotten totally out of whack, there is a recessed reset button that you can push.

Thanks ScottW,
I will try that now and see if it works.

johnmeyer, I have tried that in my vido8 cam and nothing works. I even removed the 2 bateries and nothing...weird. I have tones of me daughters tapes for that cam and I can campture them...in is a pity.

One more thing: SVIDEO only sends video. How do I send the audio to the 2nd cam?

thanks

My SonyTRV-130 is not capable of doing this but I've heard that you can transfer your analog tapes into the newer Digital and then play those into the PC. An extra step, but it might work. Try a sample. To send the audio, you might have to use the analog output of your first cam (Headphone jack or you may have a video composite, and stereo jack, like mine.) You may need an attenuator for a headphone jack, but if you have analog out, that should work fine by itself. My analog outputs use an 1/8 inch jack with 3 rings, one for video 2 for audio. The audio uses the white and red RCA jacks. You take S-video out of cam 1 into S-video input of Cam 2. Take White and red jacks from analog output of Cam 1 and input to audio in of Cam 2. Put Cam 2 in record mode and Cam 1 in Play mode and copy the 1st tape to digital in cam 2. Then transfer Cam 2 to the PC. Shouldn't lose any noticable quality.
