Help...Creating a Menu based DVD

Mark05 wrote on 3/29/2005, 1:21 PM
Okay...Yes I have looked at the manual. Please don't scold me!
Here is the problem. I want to create a DVD with a title page that displays a link to a scene selection menu for a movie. I pull my movie to the main menu which creates a link to the movie. I click the created link and then select "Insert Scene Selection Menu" and poof it creates the scene selection menus. The problem is that it also creates another link on the main menu page. Now I have two links on the main menu page for the same movie. I only want one link on the main menu per movie which will direct me to a scene selection page. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to wrap my head around this program. Maybe I am dense! What do I need to do to create just a link on the main menu that will link to a scene selection menu?? Any help please
Mark

Well its kind of complicated but Ill do my best to explain it. You need to add the movie to the disk without adding it to the main menu directory. To do this you drag the movie onto the project overview window instead of the workspace. You dont want to place it under the menu page 1directory, you want to place it directly under the root directory. This way it is on the disc but not on the main menu page.

If a link apears on the workspace you have not placed it correctly, delete the link and try again.

Once your file is in the project overview you then right click on it and choose to create a scene select menu. This will create a new directory in the project overview called scene selection.

Drag the scene selection directory onto your workspace and that is it. You can change the link properties to whatever your project requires.

cworld29 has great advice, but I have a question for you. How many movies are in this project? If there's just the one, it seems kind of silly for the main menu to only have a link to a scene selection menu (basically a menu that leads to a menu) and nothing else. If that's the case, I would follow cworld29's instructions and then add these:

Right-click your scene Selection Menu item in Project Overview and choose Set DVD Start
Select the main menu folder in Project Overview and delete it.

This starts your disc off on the menu that has the scene selection and avoids the redundant main menu. If you have more than one moive that you're selecting scenes for, though, you probably won't want to follow these steps.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice. I have three different media events (movies) for this DVD. They are each about 25 minutes in length and each have 10 to 17 chapters. Is there an easy way to do this??

Thanks,
Mark

cworld29's method should work just fine.

1. Drag each movie onto the root directory in the Project Overview window.
2. Go to each movie's timeline (double-click it in the Project Overview window) and make sure you have chapters set. If not, set them.
3. One by one, right-click each movie and choose Insert Scene Menu.
4. Drag each scene selection menu from the Project Overview window onto your main menu or onto the Main Menu item in the Project Overview window.

Done.

Thanks so much bStro, I will give it a shot tonight. That sounds really simple. I think maybe the manual could be written a little better.
