I am trying to apply an effect at a given point in the timeline only for a set number of frames or time
When I add an effect it adds it to the whole clip, how do I do this please
I have tried using keyframes but I am obviously doing something wrong
Yeah, just split the event where you want the effect to start, then split it where you want the effect to end. It will then greate a new clip, add the effect to that clip only and there ya go.
The important thing is once you split into events drop and drag the filters you want to use ON TO THE EVENT, not the track or preview window. Then proceed to set keyframes if necessary.
Also be careful WHERE in the event you drop the filter. The filter "takes" from the frame it is dropped on. So if you have an event that's 100 frames long and you drag and drop the filter with it ending up on frame 45, the first 44 frames may not be effected. Make sure by setting a first keyframe at the start of the event. If you want the effect of the filter to change over the course of the event add additional key frames.
This is one of the "secrets" as to why Vegas is so powerful. You have so much control. frame by frame if you want with almost all the filters.
Thanks for the help, I managed to suss out the splitting option, Sooooo much easier.
Now Im having a little trouble with changing effects using the Keyframe editor in the effects dialogue, I have tried altering settings within a clip but it just effects the whole clip
Any simple tips
Thanks again
There's a few things you need to watch for easy keyframing: Assumes you're working at EVENT level. Just click on the pan/crop button at the right end of any event to bring up the pan/crop work area. It (the work area) can hide behind the other windows sometimes, you may have to slide some of the other window panes out of the way to see it.
1. be sure Sync Cusor is locked
2. make certain you actrually set key frames (a diamond apears on the little track)
3. click show properites ( in Event Pan/Crop work area) for easier adjustments.
Online help has some good illustrations. There's some tutorials at SPOT's site.
