Help - I don't want to rebuild my system

Hello All,

I'm desperate.

Things seem to have scrwed up in my PC environment.

Recently I have installed WinDVD Platinum, Audigy 2 Sound Card, WM9, DX9 and Sonic MyDVD.

These were all done at different point between my last render to MPEG-2

Now if I generate a MPEG-2 file and view with WM9, zoomplayer or any other viewer I receive a Visual C++ runtime error and an abnormal termination in that player. I also can't open the MPEG in DVD Workshop.

WinDVD can play the file.

Also the audio goes slightly out of sync when viewing the MPEg. I have tried rendering to AVI and then using TMPGenc and the audio sync was OK.

Any pointers would be appreciated as I am near the point of having to build my system from scratch (man days of work).

Tried all the forums, knowledge bases etc.

For Ulead DVDWorkshop, repair;

Uninstall DVD workshop.
Install DVD Workshop, install the directx from the Ulead install menu.
Patch with 1.3 (download from Ulead.com).

Tied it but no improvement.

doing the install does not give me the option to install DirectX. I assume you mean to install 8.1

I am on XP, I can't find a 8.1 for XP on the microsoft site - any suggestions.

Paul,

Have you tried a restore point to go to the initial pre-system state before the problem occured in your XP installation? Works like a charm for me everytime I encounter a glitch.

I have just tried the restore point...

I have heard so much bad press about restore points I did not even consider them.

It's worked like a charm

I have to re-install some apps but who cares.

WM9 is still BETA. So yes, it's probably got some bugs...

And, what's a restore point? Is it like boothing by going back to the last good working config' of Windows?

Get rid of WM9 and DX9. If you have the nerve (I have used it) search for "DirectX Buster" on the internet to remove it. Otherwise, try just overwriting it with DX 8.1 Redistributable Install.:
