help im in deep trouble

i am trying to open a .veg file and i am getting an error message
" an error occurred while opening a codec" it happens on the backup files a well as the backup files i make. but not other .veg files. im losing months of work please help

If you're on windows and you have a restore point created then go back to the time before the problem happened. You can also try re-installing vegas and other codecs that are needed.
