Help in sound configuration

I know this could be out of topic here since it does not relate to the usage of Screenblast (BTW, I just love this package), anyway, I could use some help in connecting a external microphone to the camera.
I am working in a short promo for an event at my local church. I am basically using their equipment:
- Canon GL1
- Yamaha Mixer
- PVM 22 Diamond Series Microphone (Peavey)

The problem that I have is that I get like a buzz in the audio signal. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong…the GL1 has a 1/8” Mic input. I’ve tried with different mics (even tried with a wireless) but still get the same buzz.

I was hoping that somebody could give me some ideas. What should I use as output from the mixer?

Thanks for your time.
Daniel

You need to look up the specs on that camera, but it might be a Powered Mic Jack, which means you need to use a different type of microphone. There are also adapters available that will allow you to use the mic you have or the mixer.

Is the mike being connected directly to the camera or through the mixer first?

If through the mixer, check for any grounding problems as well. Also, fluorescent lights have been known to introduce some sound problems as well.

Al,
The mic goes to the mixer first. I'll check for any grounding problems.
I am not using any fluorescent lights.
