help me record to timeline

I can't get my vegas 3 to record to timeline like the old Vegas. The record button lights up but nothing is on the time line after ending the recording. The mike control setting through the computer is not on mute and the mike is turned on.
Please help me again.

does the level meter for that track respond as expected while you are recording?

A meter comes on while recording and shows a lot of movement while talking but nothing on the line durning or after I finish the recording.

The only thing I can think of is that you have an event selected somewher and Vegas is attempting to record a 'take' into the event.
