help me spec new dream machine!

I am building the dream home studio PC setup. Main uses
will be serious MIDI/digitalaudio music production, plus
some video. Single most important objective is to be as
virtual as possible, i.e. minimal boxes. The more I can do
with software, motherboard CPU and RAM plus dedicated
boards and cards, the better. Space is a consideration, but
actually, this way my wife can't really see how much I'm
spending. (Ha!) I live in Taiwan, and can get all the
latest computer components cheap - hey, Asus, Ambit, Via,
Adaptec, these are all my customers in the day job!

So, working around a core of VV and either Cubase VST or
Logic, what would be the slickest hardware today? For
soundcard I am drawn to pulsar II, cause the project
management software looks cool and the CPU unloading for
virtual synths/samplrs also seems a strong plus. I could be
talked out of this if there's something better. I also want
a massive flatpanel monitor with whatever powerful
controller is compatible with other gear. Lastly, I want a
small but useful MIDIable HUI, with some sliders and
virtual transport controls, but I don't know what's
appropriate. Otherwise, MB, storage, controllers, power
supply, CPU, RAM, vid captre card, all open.

I've scanned forums, but my head spins with compatibility
and comparative specs. Perhaps some of you pros could take
60 secs and respond with your dream list for this use.
Consider around $5000 budget, for sftwr/hrdwr, everything
but terminal inputs and outputs, i.e. mics/preamps and
audio monitors, plus my Cannon Elura.
