Is there anyone using a Canon XHA1? I do and recently my footage have some serious noise, sometimes even making the footage unsharp and useless. Especially when greenscreening the material is all too bad. I am not sure wether this has
I record in HDV, have the gain setting on low (0 gain), and shoot with well lit objects and a lot of lamps. Has anyone had a similar problem? or suggest if I am doing something wrong, or if the camera needs a repair?

Martin,

There are some noise reduction plug-ins that could help. The three I know and use are:
1) Dynamic Noise Reduction filter by Mike Crash
2) Neat Video
3) Noise Reducer from NewBlueFX found in their Video Essentials II.

DNR is free, (Thank you Mike Crash). I would try that first. The other two cost money but they both have trial versions you could test with.

Cheers,
David

Is your camera exhibiting noisy footage problems in full daylight? Meaning outdoors on a Sunny day?

Thx Backlit for recommending Dynamic Noise Reduction filter by Mike Crash!

I loaded the filter but don't see it in Vegas 9 FX. Is it located someplace else or do I need to install it in another folder?

You have to run the executable and that will install the plugin.
I think from memory first you have to unzip the package and then run the .exe. Working fine with V9 for me so it does fly.

Martin,

While not quite related to grain noise since it addresses an in-Vegas fix of interlacing artifacts with slo-mo,
you may still find this tip from VASST useful for this or other projects if you are not already aware of this tweak.

Yes, the footage has noise even in full daylight. After compressing and rendering to smaller formats it cant be seen much, but it really creates problems during editing and chroma keying. See an example here http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/699/gsshowerror.jpg
Grateful for all tips!
