Help please: cool edit not recognizing audio

Hi folks,

I'm a new Vegas user, so I'm sorry if this is a no-brainer question and I'm just being daft...

I set up CoolEdit 2002 as the audio editor with Vegas, but when I open an audio
track in it (right click on the audio and go to my assigned sound editing program) the file ends up confounding CoolEdit... it just plays loud hiss... an occasional pop of sound... no generated waveform information... etc. Any ideas or suggestions on this would be hugely appreciate.

Thanks!
John
p.s. Note: I just realized that I can load the file and view it when I say "open copy in audio editor". Any idea why this is different and would work? If I open a copy, is there a way to easily have it use that edited copy when I go back to the timeline?

I can't comment on why the original track isn't opening correctly in Cool Edit . . . very weird. Anyway, when you open a copy in your editor, the copy comes back into Vegas as a new take (on top of the original).

Thanks. Weirdly enough, if I go to the "edit a copy", then quit cool edit, then go and choose the "edit audio" feature it then works. It looks as if Vegas produces a .WAV file to send to cool edit when I choose "edit a copy", but when I go the normal route no .wav file is initially produced and cool edit is unable to interpret whatever vegas sends it instead.

I have Vegas 4 and Cool Edit Pro v2.0 installed on my system. I tried to reproduce the problem you're having with no luck. "Open in audio editor" and "Open copy in audio editor" works fine for me. I usually use Sound Forge as my preferred editor, but it looks to work the same for me when using cool edit pro also. Can you give more details as to what sound card you have, and what driver you have selected in Vegas and Cool Edit and maybe someone else can try and reproduce this for you, to see if it's a Vegas problem or a sound card driver problem?
