Help Please with increasing speed of playback

New to Movie Studio - have very important project & need to know how to increase speed of video track playback. Need part of the video to be in fast forward with an audio narration. Found Video Event Properties - General Tab - Playback Rate; it's normally set at 1.00 and I increased it which works but it won't allow any higher than 4.00. That's not fast enough. How can I do this. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Render the 4x result to a new DV .avi file, load this onto the timeline, repeat ...

That makes a lot of sense - was going to try that next but thought there had to be an easier way. Thanks so much for the quick response - need to finish this project tonight. :)

That reminds me of a related question.

When I modify the playback rate field, the event remains the same duration. Just less or more of the video is played during that event. Is there a way to tell MS to expand or contract the clip accordingly? For instance sometimes I split a section of a media file into its own event where the begin and end frame of the clip remain the same, but want the event to play at exactly 2x. or 0.5x etc. I have worked around this by using ctrl-drag on the end of the event to try to approximate 1/2 or double sized event, but then when I check the properties and see that I'm at 2.17x then ctrl-drag again until I get it to 2x.

Just hoping for an easier way.

Thanks,
Rye

Ctrl-drag is probably the easiest way to accomplish this. What i do is move the cursor to the spot on the timeline where i want the end of the clip to end up, then when i Ctrl-drag it will "snap" to this position.

Alternatively, when you use the playback rate adjustment a small while triangular notch will appear on the top edge of the event at the new ending point. With some careful mouse movement you can trim the end to this notch and it will also "snap" there.

Thanks, I'll have to look for that notch and see how that goes. Don't suppose that notch will appear beyond the end of the clip such as when slowing the video down creating the need to make the clip longer. Thanks also for the cursor trick. Didn't know it would snap to the cursor.

If you slow a clip down the notch will be displayed when you drag the clip out long enough to cross that point.

Cool! Thanks!

Well that little notch is pretty cool since dragging the edge of the clip snaps to that point. So no careful trimming required. However I couldn't get the notch to show up in all cases when I split the event 3 ways. Thought I had the pattern figured but then it turned out that it started show up in some of the cases. Sometimes when speeding up and sometimes when slowing down. Oh well when decides to be available its a time saver.
