Help - Print to Tape doesn't work

Psiman wrote on 4/8/2002, 2:55 PM
Hi,

I know this subject has come up before but nothing I've seen so far seems to have worked for me.

All the other features of Video Factory seem to be ok and I've been very pleased with the software up to now.

When I try to print to tape, the render process starts and finishes all right and then the print to tape starts. However, my camera doesn't start to record. After a few moments I get the "printing has finished" pop up even though nothing has happened. I have used Ulead Video Studio 5 to ensure that the problem is not with my camera or firewire link, printing works fine with that.

I've noticed on the Knowledge Base that the Record Setup Delay can be changed if nothing is printing. I've had a bit of a play around with these settings (no luck so far) but wondered if there were any "good" sort of numbers to use?

My system is

Athlon 1.4ghz
7200rpm udma 100 40gb harddrive
Panasonic NV-DS12 Camcorder
Windows 2000

Does anyone have any tips for me please ?

Thanks.

I've worked with a few various editing suites and this is by far the best. I don't know if some of the funny little ways of the other editing progs apply, but some advise to use a blank tape to copy to, ie. with nothing on it at all and if there is to record blank with cover on camera so digital signals don't confuse prog. When I once couldn't copy to tape it took a while to figure out I'd shut the tape's failsafe. Have you downloaded any updates, made sure AVI filepath is ok, defragged?

Hi Laz, thanks for your input.
Yeah, I've defragged, made sure the tape isn't protected and the tape is new (blank).
Nothing's happening though. There is just absolutely nothing happening at the camera end of things, yet the software thinks it's done the job!

Thanks anyway for the tips.

Cheers,
Psiman.

Just a thought............, It's possible that VF is not communicating properly with your camera (not sending the correct control codes).

Uncheck the "ENABLE DV DEVICE CONTROL" feature in the Options/preferences menu. Then start your camera recording manually and issue the comand to VF to print to tape.

Hi kcarroll,

Thank you for your reply.

I did try what you suggested but couldn't work out how to get my camera to record whilst in VCR mode. Not sure if it's [a]because my camera can't do it or [b]me being dumb again. Probably [b] :o)

I'm wiping my C drive and doing a full reinstall of everything from the ground up this weekend so I'll see if I get any luck with print to tape after I've done that.
Fingers crossed.

On my camera(CanonZR), I have to send the record signal from the remote to get it to record in VCR mode. None of the buttons on the camera will do it as far as I have been able to find out so far.

You can call me Mr Happy Bunny from now on!! :o)

A c drive format and new install of windows 2000 seems to have done the trick and print to tape now works fine. God knows what I did wrong first time around but it's ok now.

Thanks to all those who replied to my plea for help.

Cheers,
Mr HB (aka Psiman) :o)
